How to choose your paint colour

A fresh coat of paint can change the entire look and feel of your space! If you're unsure of where to start with colour selection, we’re here to help!

We’ve already carefully curated our colour palette to take a lot of the guesswork out of colour selection. No need to deliberate between 300 different shades of blue – we’ve already selected the best hues!

Here are some tips and tricks for picking the paint colour that’s right for your space.

Tip #1 - Start with colours you like

This seems like a no-brainer, but you should never paint with a colour you aren’t comfortable with. You’ll be living in the space, so starting with a colour group that you already find pleasing is a great place to start!

Tip #2 – Get inspired!

Collect images of rooms and homes that you like. These can be used as inspiration for the colour you select. You can also collect ideas for colour schemes and items that you want to include in your project (furniture, fixtures, décor, etc). Sites like Pinterest and Houzz can be a great place to start!

Tip #3 – Take stock of what you’ve got

Look around your space and take note of what you like, don’t like and why. Make a wish list or priorities list for things you want to change. Keep these changes in mind when you are selecting your colour.

Tip #4 – Other furnishings

Identify the objects that will be in the room and consider their colour and aesthetic when you are selecting your colour scheme. For example, if you want your furniture to be the focal point of your room, you may want to keep your walls more neutral. Alternatively, if your furniture is more neutral your walls can provide a pop of colour to keep things fresh.

Tip #5 – Lighting

Lighting can make all the difference when selecting your colour. Be sure to consider how much natural light you get in your room. Colours will look darker in rooms with less natural light.

Tip #6 – Review

After you’ve made some decisions, be sure you look around your space again and visualize how the items will look together.

Tip #7 - Colour Cards

You may want to order some of our easy to use stickable colour card to see how the colours will look on your wall. We recommend moving the samples around to different walls at different times of the day so you can view them in different lighting. You can also hold them up to existing furniture and fixtures to see how they go together.
